This lovely Venetian style bead has been elaborately wrapped in the fine sterling silver. It is hung on a 45cm sterling silver chain. The pendant measures 5x2.5cm.

While early interest in glass crafting began in Mesopotamia during 2500 BC, glass blowing is believed to have been used first by Roman citizens around 50 BC during the height of the Roman Empire. The earliest pieces were decorative beads or amulets. Around 460 BC.

The glass-blowing art still survives to this day. In one of the last remaining traditional factories in Portugal, glass is still crafted the way it was 600 years ago.
